Misconceptions about Real Estate Brokers
My initial perception of a real estate broker, before I had any idea what the profession entailed, was that of a "salesperson with few resources and knowledge." It was a human preconception. The first broker who sold me a property was a young, attractive man from Boston who looked like a simple "door opener" and who, when he received the check at the close of the deal, stared at the piece of paper with his mouth open. At that time, my aspirations were focused on pursuing a career in communication and journalism in the upscale neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts.
The second time I encountered a real estate broker, this time a blonde, blue-eyed, attractive woman, I thought, "salesperson with limited resources, but knowledgeable and made to sell." We were making progress. By then, I had returned from the United States, thinking that I could conquer the world with my mega career as a journalist. I ended up renting the house through a well-known "just for women" agency in the neighborhood of Sant Just Desvern. The deal was signed with another broker and everything felt cold and distant. My Personal Experience with Real Estate Brokers
And as life would have it, after failing to find my dream journalism job and after ten years of running my own business, with successes and failures, I offered myself as a real estate consultant in a German multinational company. That training was like a master's degree for me as an agent, consultant, broker, or whatever you want to call it. The point is that I learned the real challenges of the profession, which are not a piece of cake. From pounding the pavement to capture properties in your assigned area, to juggling to find the nonexistent home or apartment for the phantom buyer; and I assure you that there is a long way between capture and sale.

As someone who has worked as a real estate broker, I can say that there is more to the profession than just being a salesperson. A good broker has extensive knowledge of the local market, understands the needs and wants of buyers and sellers, and can provide valuable guidance and support throughout the buying or selling process. While there may be some brokers who fit the stereotype of a pushy, uninformed salesperson, there are many who are dedicated professionals with a wealth of expertise and experience.
